A 42-year-old New Canaan motorist who crashed into a fence was driving under the influence with a child in the car, police said.
Officers were dispatched to 227 South Avenue at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 on a report of a vehicle that struck the fence and was trying to flee the scene.
As officers were driving to that location, dispatch advised them that the driver, Amanda Sihweil, had exited the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated, police said.
Officers arrived on scene and could smell the odor of alcohol coming from the woman, according to police. She then failed Field Sobriety Tests that were completed and admitted to drinking wine prior to picking up her approximately 10-year-old child, said police. The child was also in the vehicle when the accident occurred, said police.
Sihweil was arrested and booked for Risk of Injury to a Minor and DUI. She was released and is scheduled to appear in court on June 8.
