Sinke Merim Zewge, 34, of 317 Bowery, New York City, was charged with second-degree identity theft and second-degree forgery. He was held on $25,000 bond for a court appearance Friday.

A New Canaan resident went to police to report that numerous credit cards had been taken out in the resident's name.

Police identified Zewge as a suspect in the case after he got into an accident with his U-Haul truck in Amherst, Mass. Police investigating the accident found numerous fraudulent ID's, including the New Canaan resident's, inside the U-Haul truck.

Police got an extraditable arrest warrant for him and discovered he was being held in the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y., serving a sentence for an offense in New York.

On Thursday, New Canaan Police picked up Zewge at Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, N.Y., after he completed his sentence.
