Deborah Fischer-Sedlack, 44, of Monticello, N.Y., was charged with risk of injury to a minor and interfering with an officer. She was held on $50,000 bond. Gerald Quinn, 54, of New Canaan, was charged with risk of injury to a minor. He was held on $15,000 bond. Both will appear in court Sept. 18.
Officers were dispatched to a restaurant on Washington Street just before midnight Sunday night.
They met with a woman, who said that she had been in the restaurant at the same time as Fischer-Sedlack and Quinn, and that they appeared very intoxicated, police said. She told police that she had left at the same time as the couple and had seen them go to the car and accidentally set off the car alarm.
She said Quinn was trying to turn it off when she told them they shouldn't drive with the child, police said.
Officers located the couple and a 7-year-old boy, who was shivering near the car, police said.
Fischer-Sedlack was in the car, passed out, police said.
Officers spoke to Quinn, who said that he and Fischer-Sedlack had been on a boat all day, and that they had stopped at the restaurant for steak dinners and a drink, police said.
He said that he had gone to the bathroom in the restaurant and came back to find his keys and wallet were missing, police said. He told officers that he wasn't drunk and that he wanted the situation resolved, but police said he appeared intoxicated.
Officers spoke to the restaurant manager, who said that the couple had been having wine with their dinner, police said. He said that they were also causing a scene and making other customers uncomfortable, police said.
Officers tried to get Fischer-Sedlack to get out of the car to talk to them, but she was uncooperative, according to police reports. She resisted efforts to get her out of the car and kept grabbing onto things, police said.
Both adults were arrested and the child was turned over to a friend of the arrestees, according to police reports.
