The theft occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, while the woman was shopping at the Shop Rite located at 875 Bridgeport Ave., in Shelton, said Shelton Police Det. Richard Bango.

"While shopping, the victim walked away from her shopping cart leaving her purse inside," Bango said. "Moments later the woman depicted in the attached surveillance photograph stole the purse out of the shopping cart and exited the store."

The suspect then left the store and drove across the street in a blue Ford Explorer to TJ Maxx and used the victim’s credit card to go shopping, Bango said.

Bango said the woman had not been identified as of late Tuesday afternoon.

If anyone recognizes the woman or vehicle in the photographs they are urged to contact the Shelton Police Department at 203-924-1544.
