State Police Welcome 37 New DARE Officer Candidates

DARE. in Connecticut welcomed 37 new officer candidates on Monday who will spend the next two weeks learning how to work with elementary school students in the areas of drugs and violence.

The candidates for the Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) program, includes 12 Connecticut state troopers, 17 police officers, one military police officer and seven out-of-state police officers.

The candidates will work with certified mentors and teachers to become DARE officers.

DARE is an education program that seeks to prevent the use of controlled drugs and violent behavior in children. It was founded in Los Angeles in 1983.
