Suspect Comes Forward In Suspicious Incident In New Canaan's Waveny Park

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A male suspect has forward in a suspicious incident involving a jogger at Waveny Park on Halloween, New Canaan police said Thursday.

A male went to the New Canaan Police Headquarters on Thursday to discuss his involvement in the incident, police said. 

"The male admitted to his involvement in this incident and provided specific details as to what took place, confirming he was, in fact, the suspect," police said.

In the incident, a suspicious male approached a female jogger at 5:40 p.m. on Halloween while she was running on the trails in Waveny Park, police said.

"The male suspect approached the jogger, tapped her on the shoulder, and made inappropriate remarks that alarmed the jogger," police said.

On Thursday, police said the investigation was still ongoing. Police are "determining appropriate charges and completing the appropriate paperwork to make an arrest." 

Police also said, "At this time, we feel this was an isolated incident and that the person responsible has been identified." 

Police said more information on the case will be released at a later time.

"Joggers are encouraged to run in pairs and in well-traveled areas," police said. All suspicious persons should be immediately reported to police via 911.

The suspect came forward after reading about the incident in media reports, police said.
