First Selectman Julia Pemberton posted on the town's Facebook page Saturday afternoon that the swastika had been found carved into the tree. She said that town officials are working to identify the person or persons responsible.

"THERE IS NO PLACE FOR HATE IN REDDING," Pemberton wrote.

There have been several instances of anti-Semitic graffiti in the area in recent weeks and months. Earlier in January, five swastikas were found drawn in two locations in Ridgefield, and swastikas have been found in schools in Ridgefield and Wilton.
