NEW CANAAN, Conn. —The construction on the renovated New Canaan Town Hall might start as early as November.

The town is currently in the process of getting the final review of materials and final estimates, Michael Pastore, director of the town’s Public Works Department, said during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting. After receiving the information, the plan will then need the approval of the Town Council, he said.

The purpose of Pastore’s appearance before the board was to get approval for $9,000 to enter into a contract with Heller and Johnsen for geotechnical services related to the renovation. The contract was unanimously approved and includes $7,500 for the work, with the other $1,500 going in contingency, and the amount was already budgeted for, First Selectman Rob Mallozzi III said.

The firm will design an under-drainage system below the basement to control groundwater and the preparation of related specifications for the building and parking area.

“It’s an extra measure to keep that basement dry,” Pastore said.

Town officials have been relocated to other locations in New Canaan since fall of last year because of the renovation process, previous reports said.  The current Town Hall building is more than 100 years old.
