NEW CANAAN, Conn. Much of Mary Koleks Monday evening was filled with handshakes, hugs and words of congratulations from her New Canaan supporters.
The future superintendent of the New Canaan Public Schools was the lady of the hour at the New Canaan High School cafeteria during a reception to celebrate her new position. Kolek, who has been deputy superintendent for about eight years, will take the reins on July 1, succeeding the retiring David Abbey.
Kolek said it was nice to visit with friends, school district colleagues and town officials, including First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III. She also appreciated the vegetarian spread prepared by the districts food services department.
Well, Im as excited as when I was first told of the job, she said. Everybodys been nice.
For now, Kolek is still fulfilling her deputy superintendent duties while learning from Abbey during the transition period.
