Maura S. Fruin has been named East Elementary School’s next assistant principal, and Ashley F. Furnari has been appointed assistant principal at West Elementary School, the district said in a statement.

Both will begin in their new jobs on July 1.

Fruin was most recently employed by the Westport Public Schools, where she has served as a literacy specialist at Greens Farms Elementary School and as a third-grade teacher at Long Lots Elementary School.

As an elementary level educator in the Boston area, Fruin has taught various grade levels and in a variety of disciplines. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., and received her master of arts in education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass.

“We are very excited to welcome Maura to our district," said Gary Kass, New Canaan Public Schools director of Human Resources. "In addition to bringing an extensive background in literacy and experience as a coach to other teachers, she will be sharing her warm and inviting can-do attitude with the East School community.”

Furnari comes to New Canaan Public Schools from Fairfield Public Schools. She is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, where she earned a bachelor of science in education.

She holds a master of science in reading from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven and a sixth-year certificate of advance study in administration from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

Furnari’s background as an educator includes experience as a PreK to Grade Three summer school principal, instructional improvement teacher, gifted and talented teacher, language arts specialist and elementary teacher for Grades Two and Three.

“Viewed as highly collaborative, Ashley is a gifted instructional leader who will bring energy and enthusiasm to her new role as assistant principal at West School,” Kass said.
