New Canaan Group To Make Alcohol-Free Summer Plan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — The New Canaan Ram Council is making a plan to help teenagers have a safe summer and is looking for community participation Wednesday night.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road, the council, along with an expert panel, will create a plan for a safe summer and a grass roots movement “aimed at changing our attitudes toward underage drinking,” a news release said.

The panel will be made up of: Judge Richard F. Comerford Jr., New Canaan Police School Resource Officer Jason Kim, New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps President Melanie Barnard, and Licensed Alcohol, and Drug Abuse Counselor Joyce Sixsmith, the release said. The discussion will be moderated by Matthew Maddox, co-facilitator of the Ram Council.

The Ram Council is a student-run organization that promotes leadership and independent thinking, specifically about abstaining from alcohol and drugs. There is a suggested donation of $5 for individual adults and $10 for families. Everyone who donates will receive a Ram Council “What Do You Stand For” bracelet, the release said.
