“I am truly thankful for the opportunity given to me to play such a significant role on behalf of the students, staff and the people of the New Canaan Public Schools and town for over 16 years,” Meehan said in his retirement letter. “It has been both challenging and fun; the years have certainly flown by quickly. To paraphrase Frank Sinatra, they were very good years!”
“Mr. Meehan’s dedication to the New Canaan Public Schools and his work ethic set a standard for all to admire and emulate,” Kolek said in the statement.
He was hired by the school district in 1997 as financial services coordinator, and was named budget director in 2005 before assuming his current role in 2011, the statement said. He worked in finance and management in the private sector before joining New Canaan Public Schools, the statement said.
Kolek added that the community and the school district share an appreciation for the work Meehan has done, and everyone wishes him well as he spends time enjoying family time and traveling during his retirement.
Meehan is willing to assist during the transition period until a new director is hired, the statement said.
