36th Annual Darien Road Race Steps Off Sunday At Pear Tree Point

DARIEN, Conn. -- The 36th Annual Darien Road Race takes place Sunday at Pear Tree Point Beach. 

The Darien Road Race has been raising money for local social services for 35 years. This year's race will take place Sept. 13.

The race route, which stretches along scenic waterfront roads, includes two events, a 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) and a 1.5-mile fun run called “The Loop.” 

The 1.5-mile fun run starts at 1 p.m.; the 10K starts at 1:30. After each race, awards will be presented to the runners with the fastest times. 

There is a pre-entry registration fee of $40. The race-day late registration fee is $45 for individuals older then 12 and $15 for individuals 12 and younger. Register online or complete the entry form at The Community Fund of Darien, 701 Post Road, Darien. 

Runners can pre-register and pick up their T-shirts and numbers Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at The Community Fund of Darien office. 

Race-day check-in and registration is at Pear Tree Point Beach from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Parking at Pear Tree Beach is limited. Access to the beach and road will be closed at 12:30 p.m. or when the lot is full. Runners are advised to look for off-site parking or car pool.
