New Canaan Falls To Darien In Football, Loses Top Seed In Playoff

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – High school football is as much a part of Thanksgiving as turkey and cranberry sauce in Fairfield County as the regular season closed out over the holiday.

And this year's game were not without surprises, according to FCIAC.net, the website for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. 

In Class L, Darien knocked off the top-ranked team in the state, New Canaan, 28-24, to take over the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Unbeaten New Canaan won the FCIAC championship last week with a 31-20 win over St.  Joseph.

Here is the scoreboard for Thanksgiving football games played Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Warde 44, Ludlowe 21

  • Ridgefield 35, Danbury 6
  • Fairfield Prep 29, West Haven 20

Darien (10-1) will host No. 8 Daniel Hand (8-3), the two-time defending champion, in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

New Canaan (11-1) saw its first loss and will be the No. 3 seed in Class L. The Rams will host No. 6 Farmington (9-2) in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

Ridgefield is No. 8 in Class LL and will play at No. 1 Newtown in the quarterfinals. St. Joseph is No. 2 in Class M and will host No. 7 Ledyard in the quarterfinals. Both games will be played on Tuesday.
