Was their any history of mental illness? I actually attended RIT and know the campus and surrounding area very well.
Based on Max's age, he is in the prime time to express schizophrenia. If indeed that is what has happened, I would follow protocol to find a mentally ill individual. He may or may not be in reality right now and, based upon that, I'd start my search with organizations that have the most contact with the homeless or mentally ill in and around the area. Just my two cents...
