The group, led by Care Center social worker Kate Bacon, meets on two Tuesdays every month and is open to anyone and free to attend.

Bacon talks about the importance of giving support to people who shoulder the enormous responsibility of helping those who suffer from Alzheimer's.

“Our support group gives families and caregivers the opportunity to meet other people facing similar challenges,” says Bacon. “Sharing openly with others in similar situations can help one feel refreshed and re-energized, especially in the case of caregivers.”

She also noted the importance of giving caregivers a vital social outlet.

“Caring for a person with memory loss can take an emotional toll on the caregiver,” added Bacon. “Participation in a support group helps to diffuse the sense of isolation that often affects people who care for a person with Alzheimer’s or memory loss.”

Upcoming meetings will take place on July 14 and 28, August 11 and 25, and September 8 and 22.

All hour-long meetings will begin on 1:45 p.m. at the Care Center library, located at 3 Farm Road in New Canaan.

For more information, contact Bacon by phone at (203) 594-5470, by email at kbacon@waveny.org, or online at waveny.org.
