WESTPORT, Conn. — Alan Alda, seven-time Emmy winner for TV’s iconic “M*A*S*H,” will appear at Westport Library in June as the 2017 honoree for the annual BOOKED for the Evening fundraiser.
The signature fundraiser takes place at 7 p.m. June 5 at the library. Tickets go on sale here on May 1.
An award-winning actor, director, writer and educator, Alda is the author of “If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My Face?: My Adventures in the Art and Science of Relating and Communicating,” which will be published in early June.
“Because of the hard work of our volunteer event committee and team here at the library, our annual signature gala reflects the Library's mission to enrich the intellectual and creative lives of the community as we honor an outstanding individual each year,” said Executive Director Bill Harmer. “Fundraisers like BOOKED are critical to fund the many free programs the library offers throughout the year and we are grateful for the support we receive from the sponsors and donors who make this possible.”
To learn more about sponsorships, contact Cindy Clark, the library’s director of development, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 203-291-4824.
During BOOKED for the Evening, the Library honors an individual whose work reflects the purpose of the library — to nurture the love of learning and to enhance understanding of the world.
Previous award winners include Tom Brokaw, E.L. Doctorow, Calvin Trillin, Wendy Wasserstein, Pete Hamill, Martin Scorsese, Nile Rodgers, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Oscar Hijuelos, Will Shortz, Patti Smith and Barry Levinson.
In addition to his Emmy Awards, Alda, who played the irreverent Hawkeye Pierce on “M*A*S*H,” received three Tony nominations, is an inductee of the Television Hall of Fame and was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in “The Aviator.”
His films include “The Four Seasons,” “The Seduction of Joe Tynan,” “Crimes and Misdemeanors,” “Bridge of Spies” and many more.
