NEW CANAAN, Conn. — When Nick Depuy performs in a benefit concert Tuesday in New Canaan, it will be for a cause very near and dear to him.

The concert is to help pay for the care of his mother, Ann Depuy, a longtime New Canaan resident who is battling the effects of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

And it is a chance for Nick Depuy and Friends to perform songs from his soon-to-be-released album, “Don’t Be Sorry.“

The concert will be Tuesday, July 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. under the tent for the Summer Theatre of New Canaan behind New Canaan High School.

Ann Depuy, 64, was diagnosed about four years ago. She hasn’t spoken in almost three years and hasn’t eaten by mouth in over two years, is now on a ventilator and able to communicate only by using her eyes, according to her husband, Warner Depuy.

"Nonetheless, she approaches every day with courage and grace , more than anyone else I know could muster in the face of this devastating disease," said Warner Depuy, a Stamford business consultant with his firm, Rhino Enterprises.

Ann's family continues to care for her at home, which costs over $10,000 a month..

"Her 24/7 home care costs are not covered by insurance and are staggering," he said. "We are only able to keep her cared for at home thanks to the generosity of family and friends and the community."

Nick Depuy is a 2016 graduate of American University with a major in literature and music. He is now living at home, helping with his mom’s care and spending 100 percent of his time pursuing his music passion and career as a singer/songwriter.

His unique sound is rooted in old-time folk, jazz, rock and blues, but he puts his own stamp on rock, pop and hip-hop in the songs that he writes and sings, according to his bio.

Webster Bank is sponsoring the event, and the Summer Theater of New Canaan is donating use of its tent. Admission is free, and 100 percent of all contributions collected will go to Ann Depuy’s care.

Tax-deductible donations should be made to Graybeards Ltd., a 501(c)(3) organization. For those who can't attend, contributions made payable to graybeards can be sent to c/o Warner Depuy, 84 West Park Place, Stamford, CT 06901, and they will be forwarded to the charity on Ann’s behalf.
