FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The U.S. Senate has confirmed Deirdre M. Daly of Fairfield to be U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut.
The approval came Wednesday in a voice vote. Daly will serve a four-year term. She had been acting U.S. attorney before the confirmation vote. President Barack Obama nominated her in March to be U.S. attorney.
She was confirmed along with James Walter Frazer Green, to be U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, and Damon Paul Martinez, to be U.S. attorney for New Mexico.
U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued a joint statement.
“While serving as acting U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut over the past year, Deirdre Daly has proved that she is more than qualified for the job," they said. "She has spent decades in the public and private sector ensuring that justice is served, and we have no doubt she’ll continue to do so in this position. We are proud that this firm and fair prosecutor will continue to serve the people of Connecticut.”
As U.S. attorney in Connecticut, Daly will lead an office of 64 assistant U.S. attorneys based in Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford, and oversee prosecution of all federal cases in Connecticut and any civil cases involving the U.S. government.
Daly has served as the first assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Connecticut since 2010. She became acting U.S. attorney in May 2013 when U.S. Attorney David Fein stepped down with a year left in his four-year term to return to private legal practice.
Previously, she was a partner with her husband, Alfred Pavlis, in the Connecticut law firm Daly & Pavlis from 2001 to 2010 and with the New York law firm Gage & Pavlis from 1997 to 2001.
She served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York from 1985 to 1997 and began her law career as a law clerk for Judge Lloyd F. MacMahon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1984 to 1985.
Daly received her law degree in 1984 from Georgetown University Law Center and her bachelor's in 1981 from Dartmouth College.
