Debora Chapin, 52, New Canaan Native

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Debora Janice Chapin, a New Canaan native, died in her home on Wednesday, Dec, 17. She was 52.

Born in Stamford on Oct. 30, 1962, she was the daughter of Carole Chapin of Dedham, Mass., and H. King Chapin of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and New Canaan.

Raised in New Canaan and Brookline, Mass., Chapin had a whimsical disposition and a strong affection for animals, flowers and music.

Chapin graduated from Brookline High School and was an accomplished swimmer and tennis player. She also loved ice skating at Larz Anderson Park with her brother and friends.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Ronald Coutts of Brooksville, Fla., Jane Coutts of Fort Myers, Fla., James Armstrong Chapin of Ajijic, Mexico, Dorothy Babcock Chapin of New Canaan, her aunt Dorothy "Didi" Chapin of New Canaan, her cousin Sara Lynn Buckley of New Canaan, her nephew James "Jamie" Chapin of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and her half-brother David H. Chapin of New Canaan.

In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by her son, Daniel Lane of New York City, a brother, Sandy Chapin and his wife Deborah of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and their children Kevin and Rebecca and her half-sister, April Chapin of New Canaan. 

Chapin is also survived by her great-aunt Sylvia Weaver of Fort Myers, Fla., and her family, aunts Diane Boutin of Falmouth, Mass., and Nancy Ryan of Brooksville, Fla., uncles Glen and James Coutts of Norwalk and their families, along with  cousins Kim Buckley Smith of New Canaan, Heather Buckley Pfeifle of Darien, and Todd Ermo of Norwalk and their families.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10 at noon at the United Methodist Church of New Canaan, 165 South Avenue. Flowers can be sent to Hoyt Funeral Home at 199 Main Street, New Canaan, Conn., 06840.
