NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Three teenagers were apprehended and fourth fled as state police troopers recovered a stolen car from New Canaan in Southbury.

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, troopers from Troop A in Southbury and officers from the Southbury Police Department were dispatched to the area of Woods Way Road in Southbury to attempt to locate a stolen motor vehicle believed to be in the area.

The New Canaan Police Department had contacted Troop A, requesting assistance in locating the 2017 BMW, which was reported stolen from their town on Oct. 19, state police said. They had information the car was in the area of Woods Way Road, state police said.

Troopers and officers searched the area and located the stolen BMW on Beacon Hill Road in Southbury, state police said. The BMW was stopped, and two juveniles were immediately taken into custody.

Two additional juveniles ran from the vehicle and into the nearby woods, state police said.

Troopers, Southbury police officers and State Police K9 teams searched the area and the woods for the two juveniles who ran from the stolen BMW.

One of the two juveniles who ran from the scene was later apprehended by a State Police K9 and taken into custody.

The three juveniles, ages 15, 16 and 17, were transported to Troop A in Southbury, where they were charged with motor vehicle theft, sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer.

The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Juvenile Court on Nov. 2.
