NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan Police will continue to be highly visible on town roadways to make sure people are wearing their seat belts as part of the nationwide “Click It Or Ticket” campaign through June 2.

Police will be setting up checkpoints throughout town as part of the campaign, a police department statement said. In March, the New Canaan Police Department announced its increased efforts to prevent motor vehicle violations .

“Safety belts are the most effective safety devices in vehicles today, and only take three seconds to buckle,” the statement said.

According to the statement, children are 29 percent safer in the back seat. A youngster must be in a child restraint system until the age of 7 if they weigh less than 60 pounds.

This is the 44th year of the “Click It Or Ticket” campaign. More information can be found on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website .
