An officer on patrol Sunday afternoon saw the Jaguar sedan traveling on the Post Road and noticed that it did not have a front license plate. The rear license plate also belonged to a Toyota Camry, so the officer pulled the car over, police said.
When the officer spoke with the driver, 19-year-old Jason Najarro of Stamford, she noticed the odor of marijuana, police said. Najarro said he did not have a driver's license, and that he had just purchased the car, explaining why it was not registered or insured, police said. He said he had borrowed the rear plate from a friend so he could drive the car, according to police.
When asked about the marijuana odor, he provided the officer with a small plastic baggie and a prescription pill container, each containing a small quantity of marijuana, police said. He added that there was no more marijuana in the car.
A K-9 was called in to search the car, which police said revealed 12 empty medical marijuana dispensary-issued containers, along with six empty medical marijuana dispensary-issued tube containers, and a few other various containers with marijuana residue on them. They also found a vaporizer pen with marijuana residue on it, police said. Najarro said he used the vaporizer to smoke "hash oil." He admitted that he purchased the marijuana from a friend who has a legal prescription, police said.
Najarro was issued a misdemeanor summons for possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to insure a motor vehicle, improper use of a marker plate, and operating an unregister motor vehicle. He will appear in court on June 28.
