Bethel Fire Marshal Warns Of Dangers Of Fireplace Ashes After Blazes

BETHEL, Conn., -- The Bethel Fire Marshal is warning residents to properly dispose of fireplace ashes after three recent fires — including one in which a garden shed with thousands of dollars of property inside was destroyed.

The fire marshal reminds residents to not discard ashes into the woods or onto leaves, plastic bags, or any other combustible container or space. 

Ashes can stay warm and insulated for many days and can easily ignite a fire, the fire marshal said.
