Roxbury Police responded to an unwanted persons report at Ledgewood Power Sports on Rt. 46 east in Ledgewood just after 4:10 a.m., the department said.
Officers found nine people in a fenced-in area containing ATVs and UTVs. Five were taken into custody immediately, while the others fled and were later found in a wooded area behind the business with help from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9.
The following suspects were charged with attempted theft, conspiracy to commit theft, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, obstruction, resisting arrest, and possession of burglary tools:
- Christopher Thomas, age 41, of Philadelphia, PA
- Nasir Carter, 24, of Philadelphia, PA
- Majesty Brown, 20, of Philadelphia, PA
- Carlton Burton, 53, of Philadelphia, PA
- Deron Bradsher, 20, of Philadelphia, PA
- John Lopez, 21, of Philadelphia, PA
- Alex Gonzalez, 31, of Phoenix, AZ
- Melvin Davis, 37, of Philadelphia, PA
- Nakir Thompson, 21, of Philadelphia, PA
Nasir Carter was also charged with possession of drugs and possession with intent to distribute, police added.
Meanwhile, a silver BMW fled the scene and crashed on Landing Road, though the suspects in the vehicle were not charged.
Assisting agencies include the Netcong Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Mt. Arlington Police Department, Hopatcong Police Department, Wharton Police Department, and Morris County Office of Emergency Management.
“Their immediate response unquestionably stopped a large-scale burglary in progress of approximately $488,000 in ATVs and UTVs,” Chief Adone said of all assisting agencies. “The quick-thinking of every officer arriving inevitably led to swiftly removing these criminals from Roxbury Township and I am proud of their achievement this morning.
“Today’s arrests are indicative of the vigilant efforts of our Morris County law enforcement personnel,” Morris County Sheriff James Gannon added. “This early morning success of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Roxbury Police Department working in tandem exemplifies the seamless coordination between law enforcement agencies we strive for. Good work by all in capturing these alleged criminals and keeping our neighborhoods safe.”
