Bedard Named Assistant Principal At New Canaan's Saxe Middle School

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Steven R. Bedard was will take over as the assistant principal at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan on July 1 after being appointed by Superintendent Bryan Luizzi and Principal Greg Macedo.

Bedard has been with New Canaan Public Schools since 2004, when he began as a teacher of health and physical education and head boys track and field coach.

As coach, Bedard was twice named FCIAC coach of the year (2005 and 2011) and guided the team to Connecticut state championships in 2007 and 2011.

Since 2012, Bedard has also served as the Director of Alternative Learning Programs for New Canaan High School, where he was responsible for leading both the summer school and Alternative Instructional Program (AIP) for high school students.

Most recently, Bedard has served as Acting Assistant Principal at NCHS for the 2014-2015 school year.

Among his numerous responsibilities as the grade 10 administrator at NCHS, Steve supervised the physical education, health, and science departments, security staff, and Academic Center for Excellence and Support. He served on the district Crisis Advisory Board and managed crisis preparedness school-wide.

“Steve has had an extremely successful year as an administrator at New Canaan High School. He is recognized as a kind, caring, and thoughtful professional with boundless energy and enthusiasm for students and education," Luizzi said in a statement. "He has proven himself to be an effective communicator with a collaborative leadership style that is a perfect fit for our middle school, and we look forward to the great work he’ll do on behalf of our students and families in the years ahead.”

Bedard received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Syracuse University. In 2010 he was awarded a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership by the University of New England in Portland Maine where he continued his studies, earning a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Leadership, Ethics and Change in 2014.
