New Canaan's Ted O'Rourke Wins Prestigious College Scholarship

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan High School senior Ted O'Rourke was recently named a Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia, according to a press release.

O’Rourke and 33 other Jefferson Scholars will begin their studies at the Charlottesville, Va. university in the fall.

O’Rourke’s brother, Jack, was named a Jefferson Scholar in 2014.

Ted O’Rourke’s expenses for attending UVA will be fully covered.

Of the 1,701 students nominated for the Jefferson Scholarship, 116 participated in a five-day competition and interview process.

O’Rourke is also a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction and recipient of the Connecticut Governor’s Scholar Award.

He has earned one of the highest grade point averages in his high school class, while playing varsity soccer, hockey, and lacrosse.

O’Rourke, editor of the Spectator Literary Magazine for the past two years, is also involved in many other extracurricular activities including the National Honor Society and New Canaan High’s math team.
