“I am still beaming with pride for our eighth grade girls Treble Ensemble who had an amazing day at the Music in the Parks Festival at Six Flags New England on Friday, May 29," Saxe music teacher Sarah Gleason said. “In short, they won every divisional honor and trophy possible!

The honors included:

• Superior performance rating

• 1st place Middle School Women's Chorus

• 1st place Middle School Chorus overall (top rating from every MS choir that was there)

• Esprit de Corps Award - given to only one group from the performance venue "Presented to students who demonstrated proper social behavior as well as musical behavior/encouragement. They possess the qualities of highly successful people who are sensitive to the feelings of others and applaud accomplishments no matter if my one's own school or another school."

“The girls were professional, well mannered, positive, excited, and performed fantastically," Gleason said. "I'm incredibly proud of them! I had to share the good news!”

The New Canaan High School Band also enjoyed a successful visit to Six Flags New England a week earlier.

“The NCHS Band earned a Superior rating and won the Music in the Parks AA Band Competition on May 22. The 93.5 score out of a 100 was 2 full points higher than their previous high rating in adjudications," said music teacher Scott Cranston, the band's director. "They also won Best Band Overall earning the highest score of all bands in all categories at two festival locations in Springfield, Mass., that day.”

Music in the Parks organizes music festivals for instrumental, choral and marching student performers at theme parks throughout the United States.

According to their website, “As fellow music educators, our mission is to bring together students and adjudicators in a positive learning environment that will inspire the students to strive not only for excellence, but to make music a lifelong activity.”
