: Traffic Still Stretches For Miles Hours After NY State Thruway Overpass Is Struck
UPDATE: The southbound New York State Thruway was entirely reopened by 7 p.m. Thursday following repairs to a severely damaged overpass. An overheight hollow steel tower being transported on a trailer struck and severely damaged the South Broadway bridge in Orangetown at 6:45 a.m. Aug. 31, according to New York State Police. The result: A traffic standstill that at one point stretched nearly a dozen miles, various feeder roadways choked with vehicles and countless motorists looking for a way out. A tractor trailer overturned on Route 78, taking out the two right lanes of the highway early Tuesday, Aug. 22. The accident happened on the westbound side of the highway just east of Exit 58 to Port Street in Newark.

Water Main Break Floods Route 4 Exit In Paramus
A water main break in Paramus on Thursday flooded part of Route 4 and closed a busy exit ramp. Construction crews working near the exit ramp for Paramus Road off the westbound highway accidentally punctured the 16-inch main shortly before noon Aug. 17. It unleashed a mini flood that filled the exit with nearly a foot of water and closed Route 4's left lane near the median. A serious crash on the Pulaski Skyway had traffic backed up Sunday evening, Aug. 13 in Newark. The crash happened on the northbound side of the highway just east of the US 1&9 truck route, around 5:45 p.m. Delays up to 20 minutes were being reported.

Downed Tree Halts NJ Transit Service
Service was suspended along one NJ Transit line due to a tree that fell into overhead wires Friday, Aug. 11. It happened around dawn in Middletown, disrupting service to the North Jersey Coast Line. Jackknifed Trailer Shuts Route 280
A jackknifed tractor-trailer shut a portion of Route 280 Saturday morning, Aug. 5 in Essex County. The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m., closing a portion of the highway in both directions at Exit 12. A fuel spill was also reported by the NJDOT.

: Northbound Route 17 Reopened After Wild Tractor-Trailer Crash Damages Overhead Sign
UPDATE: Northbound Route 17 in Mahwah as reopened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday following a wild tractor-trailer crash earlier in the day. Only one lane of the southbound highway was open during the evening rush. There miraculously were no serious injuries in the crash, which left the rig scattered across both sides of the highway near the New York State border around 10 a.m. Aug. 2, Mahwah Mayor Jim Wysocki said. Driver Hospitalized In Route 287 Wreck
A driver survived a nasty overnight crash on Route 287, authorities said. Firefighters extricated the motorist, who complained of pains in both legs after his Mazda SUV ran off the road and struck a sign and a tree on the highway's southbound side near mile marker #60 in Franklin Lakes at 1:47 a.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Philip Curry said. The driver was hospitalized with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, the sergeant said.

Box Truck Being Towed Tips Beneath Route 80 Overpass
A box truck tipped while being towed beneath a Route 80 overpass in Elmwood Park, jamming area traffic early Friday afternoon. Another tow was needed to straighten and remove the truck owned by Salerno's Custom Cabinetry in Saddle Brook from the corner of River Road and Market Street shortly after 1 p.m. No injuries were reported. Route 17 Crash Downs Wires
A single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday night downed utility wires on Route 17 in Paramus. The northbound highway was closed for a little over a half-hour after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole near Midland Avenue around 10:30 p.m. July 12. Only one lane was passable on the southbound side while the wreckage was removed and police investigated. An occupant was extricated, although word was that Injuries didn't appear serious.
