12-Year-Old Driver Sends Car Off I-495 In Fairfax County: State Police A 12-year-old driver was hospitalized after sending a vehicle off the side of I-495 in Fairfax County early Monday, May 13, authorities said. The child was heading south in the express lanes near Gallows Road near Merrifield when they ran off the road and came to rest on the shoulder around 5:05 a.m., Virginia State Police said. The out-of-state tween suffered minor injuries and was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment. State police were able to make contact with the juvenile's parents. No charges were placed. Heavy backups were reported following the incident.
